Countryside Management Operations for the London Borough of Barnet

The London Borough of Barnet is commissioning a sole service provider to deliver Countryside Management Operations for a contract lasting three years, with an option to extend for an additional year. The operations are divided into six discrete Lot areas, covering access maintenance on bridleways and rural paths, meadow management, rural verge grass cutting, hedge maintenance—including flail cutting—, ditch, culvert, land drainage and revetment works, and bespoke ad‑hoc tasks that may arise throughout the term. Each Lot is marked out with a clear schedule of work, notably requiring first cuts in May or June, second cuts in August, and, where applicable, a third cut in November or an additional harvesting period in October, all of which are to be completed within specified windows to preserve the visual and ecological quality of the countryside.

The selected provider will be responsible for executing these activities to meet the Borough’s maintenance standards and care of rural infrastructure. The provider must manage access routes, control vegetation growth to maintain sightlines, conduct hedge and verge trimming according to designated cut schedules, and execute site‑specific maintenance of ditches, culverts, and drainage structures, with adjustments agreed upon with the Authority. All work must comply with local environmental and safety regulations and meet the specified cutting schedules and vegetation maintenance standards.

The London Borough of Barnet (the ‘Authority’) is seeking to appoint a sole service provider (the ‘Provider’) to deliver Countryside Management Operation services per Lot on its behalf for a three-year period with the option to extend for one year subject to budget constraints and performance. A sole Lot service provider may be the provider to one or more Lots.
The works and services for Countryside Management Operations will be divided into six Lot areas as listed below:
· Lot 1: Access Maintenance (Bridleways)
· Lot 2: Meadow Management
· Lot 3: Rural Verges Grass Cutting
· Lot 4: Hedge Maintenance including Rural (Flail Cut)
· Lot 5: Ditch, Culvert Maintenance, Land Drainage and Revetment
· Lot 6: Access Maintenance (Rural Path Maintenance)
The key periods of work will be in the period between the months of May and August. There may be other works associated with Countryside Management Operations which will be on an Ad hoc basis and subject to quotations.
