Lyndon Green Junior & Infant Schools ~ Catering Tender

Lyndon Green Junior School and Lyndon Green Infant School have announced a competitive tender for the delivery of catering services across their shared kitchen facility. The successful supplier will be responsible for preparing and serving breakfast‑break and lunch meals for children aged seven to eleven and for meeting all hospitality and free‑issue requirements at an equitable cost. The schools’ kitchen, which has historically operated as a hub for neighbouring schools, may again be utilised as a central hub for a wider delivered meal service should a viable business case be presented.

The contracting authority expects the contractor to help advance the schools’ vision of an innovative, healthy food service by sourcing fresh, seasonal, and locally produced ingredients, supporting the curriculum’s emphasis on forest school learning and the five core dispositions of perseverance, positivity, creativity, adventure, and hard work. The contract is scheduled for 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2029 with a potential extension to 31 December 2031. Quality will carry a 70 % weighting, followed by price at 30 %.

The supplier must adhere to UK Food Standards Agency guidelines and produce menus that incorporate locally sourced, seasonal produce.

The successful Supplier will be required to provide Catering services for Lyndon Green Junior School and Lyndon Green Infant School.
The two Schools share the same kitchen, which currently has an in-house catering provision, this being the first time that the contract has been put to competitive tender.
The kitchen is large and whilst it currently only services the onsite Schools, in previous years it has been the hub kitchen for a delivered meal service for up to three other local Schools. The governing body would, in principle, consider the re-establishment of the kitchen as a hub for a delivered meal service to other Schools, subject to an appropriate business case being made.

Lyndon Green has a Forest School. A forest school is an educational model where children learn through hands-on, child-led play and exploration in a natural environment, such as a woodland. It is a long-term, holistic approach that emphasizes the development of self-esteem, confidence, and problem-solving skills through supported risk-taking in a regular, sustained contact with the outdoors. This is different from one-off nature trips, as it is a process-based philosophy that happens over an extended period.
Our school values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment which prepares our pupils. Our five dispositions: perseverance, positivity, creativity, being adventurous and hard working underpin all aspects of school life.
As of October 2025, we have 367 pupils between the ages of seven and eleven on roll , many of whom are entitled to Free School Meals. The value of the current catering contract is circa £172,500.
The Client expects the successful Supplier to enable the continued development of catering through the provision of an innovative, healthy food service, with fresh, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients being prepared.
The contract covers the scope for the provision of catering services, which currently includes both morning break and lunch at margin, all hospitality and free issue requirements as at net cost.
